Vetiver

Vetiver is one of my favorite essential oils.

Description:

Vetiver grows in India and Indonesia.  The roots are harvested, dried and prepared for steam distillation.  The oil is thick like a syrup and has a earthy, rich and strong aroma.  Although the extraction processes is labor intensive, vetiver oil is not too expensive.  A 5ml bottle costs 18 dollars retail from Young Living.

Uses:

Studies have shown vetiver can be used in ADHD.  With the overuse and abuse of amphetamines like Ritalin finding other ways of dealing with symptoms of overactivity is prudent.  Vetiver can be a effective alternative.  For use, apply one small drop to the back of neck or forehead or directly inhale.  Lavender oil has been noted as complimentary to vetiver.  A drop of each in the bath water provides relaxation.

Personally, I use vetiver on my knee (patellar tendonitis) and achilles to relieve tendonitis.  It has worked better than wintergreen or other anti-inflammatory essential oils.   One application in the morning lasts the entire day and during work I can smell it’s aroma – relaxing.
